PSA: A Note On USPS Flat Rate Packaging

We have recently seen a spike in USPS Flat Rate boxes arriving open or partially open. The adhesive does not appear to be sticking as well as it should be. This was an odd, random occurrence in the past but has cropped up numerous times this year; Enough that I am writing this announcement.

If using USPS Flat Rate packaging, including but not limited to the USPS Small Flat Rate Box, we are recommending at a minimum that you apply a piece of packaging tape to the flap side or sides of the box. You can simply apply a piece in the center of the flap, or lengthwise down the flap, ensuring that the tape makes proper purchase with both the flap and the side of the box. On the Small Flat Rate Box we have also found it prudent to apply tape to either end of the box as well, in case the box is crushed, it will help keep the contents inside.

Aside from what’s stated above, when using USPS Flat Rate packaging, ensure that nothing comes between the adhesive and the mating surface when sealing the box. We often find items like bubble wrap or paper in between the adhesive and the mating surface. This can obviously prevent proper sealing. Also, make sure to apply adequate pressure along the flap or flaps to ensure that the adhesive makes proper contact with the mating surface. Following the above steps will help ensure your watch’s safe arrival.
